Comm-Piler sends transactional SMS only (incident helpdesk alerts, equipment return reminders, coordinator review notices, and Standing Team Roster notifications). We do not send marketing or promotional text messages. This page describes how recipients opt in, what they receive, and how to opt out. It supplements our Privacy Policy — SMS and Terms of Service — SMS.
There is no public self-sign-up for SMS. Phone numbers are collected only through the workflows below. Screenshots on this page match what we submit for US toll-free verification.
A helpdesk manager opens Manage recipients for an incident, enters the mobile number in E.164 format, and must check a confirmation box before adding the number. The confirmation states that the recipient agreed to receive incident SMS from Comm-Piler, that messages are transactional only, and that they may reply STOP to opt out. After the number is saved, the first outbound message includes a one-segment welcome: “Comm-Piler: you are now subscribed to incident SMS notifications. Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Msg & data rates may apply.”

When someone checks out agency radio equipment, they enter a mobile number on the checkout or kiosk form. The Cell phone field includes disclosure that Comm-Piler may send transactional SMS about this loan (return reminders), with STOP and HELP instructions. The first outbound SMS includes the welcome message and STOP language.

Organization administrators may add a mobile number to Interop reservation alerts with an explicit Notify via SMS checkbox. Before saving, the admin must check a confirmation box attesting that the coordinator agreed to receive transactional review SMS (not marketing), with STOP and HELP instructions. US numbers are normalized to E.164 on save. Numbers are internal coordinators only; the same STOP/HELP handling and welcome SMS apply on first send.
A Standing Team Roster manager may enable the Notify via SMS checkbox for a roster member only after checking a confirmation box attesting that the person agreed to receive transactional team call-outs, availability checks, and operational notices from Comm-Piler (not marketing). A member with a Comm-Piler login may also enable the checkbox on their own roster entry after reading the same direct consent disclosure. The disclosure includes that message and data rates may apply and that recipients may reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Send-time checks exclude members who have not opted in or who previously replied STOP.
Example production-style message: “Jamie, please return your Motorola APX 8000XE (SN 579CYK2941) to the Comm Unit / (555) 123-4567. Demob is at 1700. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Reply STOP to any Comm-Piler SMS to unsubscribe from all Comm-Piler SMS programs for that phone number. Reply HELP for the Messaging Service help reply. Reply START to resubscribe. Opt-outs are recorded in our database and excluded from future sends in the operator UI.
SMS delivery is provided by Twilio Inc. We store phone numbers, opt-in source, delivery status, and opt-out timestamps for compliance and operations. We do not sell phone numbers for advertising. See Privacy Policy — SMS for retention and contact details.
